- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup butter (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 3–4 tbsp milk (for frosting)
- Red food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a heart-shaped cake pan.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Stir in boiling water. The batter will be thin.
- Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cake in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- For frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk.
- Add red food coloring if desired. Frost the cooled cake.

- Use a toothpick to check cake doneness.
- Let cake cool completely before frosting.
