Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup red food coloring (optional)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a baking pan and set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- If using, add red food coloring and mix until uniform.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool before icing with powdered sugar.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
- You can substitute buttermilk for regular milk for a tangier taste.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
