  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 green chili, sliced
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped
  • 1 lemon, juiced

Instructions

  1. Drain soaked black-eyed peas and rinse them well.
  2. Pressure cook the peas with enough water for 3 whistles or until soft.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
  4. When they splutter, add chopped onion, garlic, and green chili. Sauté until golden.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well.
  6. Add cooked black-eyed peas and mix gently.
  7. Cook for 5 minutes on low heat.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander and lemon juice before serving.
