- 1 cup black-eyed peas, soaked overnight
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 green chili, sliced
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped
- 1 lemon, juiced
Instructions
- Drain soaked black-eyed peas and rinse them well.
- Pressure cook the peas with enough water for 3 whistles or until soft.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
- When they splutter, add chopped onion, garlic, and green chili. Sauté until golden.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well.
- Add cooked black-eyed peas and mix gently.
- Cook for 5 minutes on low heat.
- Garnish with fresh coriander and lemon juice before serving.
Notes
- Soaking the peas reduces cooking time.
- Adjust spice levels to your taste.
- Serve hot with rice or flatbread.
