Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and cream of tartar in a saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  3. Bring to a boil and cook without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and food coloring.
  5. Pour onto a greased baking sheet and let cool slightly.
  6. Cut into heart shapes while still warm.
