Ingredients

  • 1 cup masa harina
  • 1 disk Mexican chocolate (about 3 oz)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Heat water in a pot over medium heat.
  2. Whisk masa harina with a little water to form a smooth paste.
  3. Add the masa paste to the pot, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  4. Break the chocolate into pieces and add to the pot with cinnamon and sugar.
  5. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
  6. Add milk, vanilla, and salt. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Remove cinnamon stick and serve hot.
