Description

A festive Christmas pie recipe to bring holiday happiness to your table. Perfect for family gatherings and celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 cups mixed dried fruits (raisins, currants, chopped dates)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or almonds)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 egg, beaten (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add cold water, stirring until the dough comes together. Divide into two portions, wrap in plastic, and chill for 30 minutes.
  4. In another bowl, combine sugar, dried fruits, nuts, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  5. Roll out one dough portion to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Place the dough in the dish.
  6. Fill with the fruit mixture. Roll out the second dough portion and place it over the filling. Seal edges and cut slits on top.
  7. Brush the top with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute mixed dried fruits with fresh apples or pears if preferred.
  • For a richer flavor, soak dried fruits in rum or brandy overnight.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
